How to care for your lashes after extensions for a longer-lasting look

How to care for your lashes after extensions for a longer-lasting look

Eyelash extensions give your eyes a deeper, more natural curve right after the first session. But to keep that shape looking great for longer, how you care for them at home in the first few days matters a lot — many clients get beautiful lashes only to lose them early over a few small habits.

1. Avoid water for the first 4-6 hours

Lash glue needs time to fully dry and bond to the natural lash. In the first 4-6 hours after your appointment, avoid exposing your lashes to water, steam (sauna, hot showers) or heavy sweating.

2. Don't rub your eyes or sleep face-down

Rubbing your eyes or sleeping face-down into your pillow is a common cause of lashes shifting, breaking or shedding earlier than normal. If your eyes itch, gently dab with a clean cotton swab instead of rubbing directly.

3. Limit oil-based products around the eyes

Oil-based creams, makeup removers or mascara can dissolve lash glue faster. Choose eye products labeled "lash extension safe" whenever possible.

4. Brush your lashes daily

Use a lash brush (usually given to you after your extension appointment) to gently brush your lashes each morning — this keeps them from tangling, clumping and helps them hold their curved shape longer.

5. Fill on schedule

Natural lashes shed on a roughly 2-3 week cycle, taking the attached extensions with them. It's best to get a fill (adding new extensions to the gaps) every 2-3 weeks rather than waiting until most have fallen out — it's more cost-effective and keeps your eyes looking even.
